Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood situated in The West Island of Montreal is something you could call a "sleepy" area. The West Island has a lot of diverse communities. Many who've never heard of it often confuse it with a separate, west-facing island. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time in the city wasn't long. Brugel was raised in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. At the beginning of her life she hoped to become the next big thing in her career, but a sudden expansion of her body made it impossible. In an interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet, 1 inch." After I surpassed my male counterparts, that's when I gave up. Dancers who have been in the past often switch to acting and in the case of Brugel it was an urging from her teacher of drama. It was her teacher who suggested she audition for the role of Anne in the school's annual production. The audition was successful and she was chosen as Anne of Green Gables. It led to her receiving a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts at York University. In the last 20 years, her roles in the world of television and on the screen have been numerous. The role of Rita from the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale was her most famous. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor in the season 1 which was viewed only occasionally.
